“Own brand” machines successfully used for test purposes

Thinking outside the box, trying new things, helping shape innovations – at PROTIQ we leave the beaten paths behind in keeping with this claim. The latest examples of our start-up philosophy are our unique machines for research and development purposes.

Everything started with a serendipitous discovery on Ebay. A well-maintained machine, built in 1993, attracted our attention. It may not have been cutting edge technology, but experience told us that something could be made of it. So we did not hesitate very long and soon made it our own at PROTIQ. After receiving our new “toy”, we were pleased to note that we had not been mistaken. Starting from a massive base, we were able to have a play and equip the interior life of the machine with the latest laser technology. We are also particularly proud of another 3D printing machine that is thoroughly “own brand”. After years of work we managed to come up with a laser system whose features such as powder preheating, open parameter sets or variable energy coupling make it unique on the market.

“Why do we tinker with machines? Because in this way we can come up with refinements that conventional series production equipment could simply not offer us,” explains Dr. Ralf Gärtner, Managing Director of PROTIQ. “After all, as a rule, the starting point for machine manufacturers is the processing of a certain material. We, on the other hand, focus on the product’s expected features, regardless of the respective material. By taking this perspective, we aim to set the tone for future developments by plant manufacturers. We have learned a lot thanks to our own constructions and thus created a valuable basis for discussion.”

PROTIQ uses the exceptional machines not only for its own research and development purposes, but also makes them available to customers – as a tool for a high-end material qualification. Many material manufacturers are already taking advantage of this offer.
